Membership Benefits:

Where does the money go?

  • SCDGC is a non-profit 501(c)4. We function as a pass through…. money comes in (memberships, series fees) and then right back out as player benefits (discs, events, prizes). Lets break it down!
    • 1) Member fees ($30) fund operational costs of the organization
      • Purchase and mail physical member benefits (discs and bag tags)
      • File taxes and corporation fee to maintain compliance as a non-profit in California
      • Sponsor the SoCal Series Championship Tournaments, Pro and Am, each November
      • Fund Team SoCal’s entry to annual team event, T. Ske CA Cup (NorCal vs. SoCal)
      • Co-sponsor hole #11 (“The California hole”) at the USDGC & Throw Pink Women’s Disc Golf Championship
      • WordPress fees for this website!
    • 2) Series fees ($2 per player, per event) fund year end awards
      • Pros win cash
      • Ams win prizes (often, SoCal DGC apparel)
      • TDs are recognized with “thank you” gifts for serving our community
      • All series fees are paid back to the members and TDs!

But what about the $5 fee non-members pay to play SoCal series events?

  • SoCal does not receive non-member fees!
  • These funds are at the direct discretion of the individual tournament directors
  • Non-member fees can be applied to boost prize pools and/or player packs, to offset course rental fees, to buy player lunches, to offset PDGA sanctioning fees…
  • In short, the non-member fee is a direct fundraiser to enhance the event.

Are SoCal DGC Board Members paid?

  • Nope.

Does SoCal have a financial reserve?

  • Not really. We carry very little balance from year to year because our goal is to return maximum benefit to our members within the same year they joined or renewed.

I wish SoCal membership included ____________.

  • Contact us!
  • No, seriously, let us know. We are a member organization and our only purpose is to foster an awesome disc golf community, so if you have an idea… we want to hear it.

How can I help?

  • Volunteer at your home course. Support your local TD! If your home course doesn’t hold a SoCal Series event, consider being the one to bring a tournament there. We all benefit from each and every volunteer effort!
  • If you would like to volunteer with SoCal, contact a board member.

Thank you for supporting SoCal Disc Golf!
