Wherever tournaments you’re traveling to next, safe travels!

by Mike Byrne

Greetings SoCal Club!

If you’ve been wanting a fun two-round, one-day, SoCal Series tournament, and play MA1, FA1, or any pro division, take a ride up the mountain to Sky High/Mountain High North, Sunday, May 21.

And although the Saturday Am day (except MA1 and FA1) is full, you’ll still be able to get in practice on the 9 holes not played in the tournament each round. Make it a weekend getaway and hit the great local  restaurants like Mexico Lindo and the Evergreen Cafe! And obviously the Wright Brew Co!!!! Registration

Also, if you’re a “Seasoned” disc golfer, did you know that registration is live for the Pasadena Senior Games at Oak Grove?!?!

Get your Advil and CBD cream ready and sign up today! Registration

T. Ske CA Cup NorCal vs. SoCal Invitational Team Disc Golf Tournament Wrap Up

After day one of the tournament, SoCal had a shockingly large lead of 63 to 17!

NorCal had no choice but to shake up their lineup drastically and hope for the reverse results on Sunday.

As the cards rolled in Sunday afternoon, two things were clear, Norcal did better than the day before, and SoCal would retain the California Cup water pail trophy!

Sunday scores: SoCal 51.5; NorCal 28.5.

Grand total: SoCal 114.5; NorCal 45.5.

I know that all SoCal hopes that we are in a new era of dominance (as NorCal has had), and we look forward to defending the coveted perpetual trophy next year!

Cheers!

Mike Byrne

This is not part of the So Cal point series but trying something new to move tags around while showing our appreciation for those that work so hard for disc golf.

2023 T. Ske California Cup

NorCal vs Socal Invitational Team Disc Golf Tournament

The T. Ske CA Cup NorCal vs. SoCal Invitational Team Disc Golf Tournament will be February 4 – 5, 2023 at beautiful Waller Park in Santa Maria.

This tournament which has been going since 1998 was the brainchild of Innova’s cofounder, Tim Selinske. It has been generously supported by Innova since it began.

The tournament format is loosely based on golf’s Ryder Cup. It’s two rounds of singles match play, and two rounds of best-shot doubles match play.

Interesting fact (or folklore?): the first tournament utilizing doubles match play started with the T. Ske CA Cup.

Each team will have 40 players: six MPO, two FPO, six MP40, four MP50, one FP40, three MP60, six MA1, two FA1, six MA2, two MA40, and two MA50.

Invitations will be based on the the Series points totals, but there will also be team captain picks.

This year the first invitations will go to the top five MPO, one FPO, five MP40, three MP50, two MP60, five MA1, one FA1, five MA2, one MA40, and one MA50.

The team captain picks will be based on ratings; Series points; a desire to include a sprinkling of Santa Maria locals; intangibles like team chemistry, volunteer work, promotion of disc golf; and the number of division positions available and the depth of participants in the division.

Invitees will be announced at the SoCal Awards Saturday, December 10.

Invited or not, if you are committed to play, rain or shine, send me a message or email me at RabbitFlatsDGC@gmail.com. I often need last minute replacements.

Historically, I shuffle players quite a bit including putting players in divisions that they may not routinely play. For example you may get invited because of your points in MP40, but you could play MPO.

SoCal Disc Golf club will again be paying the player entry fees. You won’t win any money at this tournament, but you will get cool tournament swag, a great weekend of disc golf with friends, and hopefully another year of bragging rights. 😄

Most participants say this is the funnest tournament of the year!

We tee at noon on Saturday and play two 18-hole rounds back to back, nonstop: first singles, then doubles.

On Sunday we tee at 9 AM, with the same format.

When you finish Sunday, you’ll be treated to the finest of Santa Maria hospitality including a wonderful tri-tip BBQ.

Scoring details:

You’ll receive one point for each hole that you win. The player with the most points after 18 holes wins the match.

If you win the match you are awarded one point for Singles (1/2 for a tie), and your doubles team will receive two points for winning a hole, or one point for a tie.

All match points are then added up to determine which team goes home with the Perpetual Bucket Trophy🏆 for the year, (which SoCal currently holds 🙂).
